We love going out with our friends.
The laughter. The excitement. The memories we make when we explore somewhere new and feel part of everything happening around us.
We are the young adults of Genovation’s Young Adult Enrichment Program—YAEP.
Most of us do not communicate using spoken words, but there is something we would all like you to hear:
We want to experience life.
We want to explore, spend time with our friends and feel part of our community. We want the same freedom, connection and sense of belonging as other young adults.
But something most people never have to think about can make our world much smaller.
Many of us use wheelchairs and need assistance with personal care. Away from home, finding a safe, clean and private place to use the toilet or receive that care can be extremely difficult.
Imagine having to leave a day out with your friends—not because you are ready to go home, but because there is nowhere suitable to meet your needs.
Or missing out altogether.
We want to change that.
Genovation owns a 2016 Mercedes Sprinter, chosen specifically for the height and frame needed for a specialist conversion. With your help, it can become a wheelchair-accessible vehicle with its own private personal-care space, including a fold-out adult-sized change bed and hoist.
This would mean:
- More places we can go.
- More experiences we can share.
- More memories we can make with our friends.
- More freedom, dignity and inclusion.
Our community has already raised $1,600, and we are also holding a fun bingo night to support the project. While the final conversion quote is being completed, we have set an initial fundraising goal of $50,000.
Every donation and every share will bring us closer to creating our own safe, clean and dignified changing space on wheels.
